ACME, A Telerobotic Measurement Facility for Reality-Based Modelling on the Internet
نویسنده
چکیده
The Active Measurement Facility (ACME) is an integrated robotic facility designed to acquire rich measurements from objects of moderate size, for the purpose of building accurate computational models. ACME is a telerobotic system with fteen degrees of freedom, and can be controlled from any remote location on the world wide web. We provide a brief overview of ACME, followed by aspects of teleprogramming for ACME.

ACME, A Telerobotic Active Measurement Facility
We are developing a robotic measurement facility which makes it very easy to build “reality-based” models, i.e., computational models of existing, physical objects based on actual measurements. These include not only models of shape, but also reflectance, contact forces, and sound. Such realistic models are crucial in many applications, including telerobotics, virtual reality, computer-assisted...
متن کاملReality-Based Modeling with ACME: A Progress Report
We describe the current state of ACME, the UBC Active Measurement facility, a telerobotic facility designed for building computational models of everyday physical objects. We show how ACME is being used to acquire models of contact texture (including friction and roughness), contact sounds, and contact deformation.
متن کاملReal-Time Internet-Based Teleoperation
Internet-based teleoperation employs robots and internet a two breakthrough technologies to manipulate robots from distance for different applications. Variable and unknown time delay dynamics of internet is the main obstacle for realtime teleoperation via internet. In this paper the internet delay dynamics and its characteristics have been studied based on the measurement in different nodes. T...
متن کاملBaxter's Homunculus: Virtual Reality Spaces for Teleoperation in Manufacturing
Expensive specialized systems have hampered development of telerobotic systems for manufacturing systems. In this paper we demonstrate a telerobotic system which can reduce the cost of such system by leveraging commercial virtual reality(VR) technology and integrating it with existing robotics control software. The system runs on a commercial gaming engine using off the shelf VR hardware. This ...
متن کاملControl Gain Adaptation in Virtual Reality Mediated Human–Telerobot Interaction
The Internet connects millions of computers worldwide, and provides a new potential working environment for remote-controlled telerobotic systems. The main limitation of using the Internet in this application is random delays between communicating nodes, which can cause disturbances in human–machine interaction and affect telepresence experiences. This is particularly important in systems integ...
